If bacteria are grown in a petri dish, they expand until their universe is consumed. Then without more energy to consume, they quickly extinguish
Humans do much the same.

Every living thing at its most fundamental level strives to turn our entire universe into copies of itself.

Is this the ultimate point or is there a higher self-interest?
